A grey day dawned, and we began trolling around some boats near the Cleddau Bridge. No luck here, so I switched to bottom fishing gear and headed further upriver. Just one dogfish, which fell to ragworm, was the sum of our efforts on a surprisingly miserable, drizzly August day.
As I’d expected this far up the river, the baits were attracting the attention of crabs. This was the perfect opportunity to break out the anti-crab rig, which consists of a polystyrene float, a size-1 hook and the usual flatfish attracting bling. Well, I can confirm that all crabs were prevented from taking the bait. I can also confirm that no fish took the bait either, so I’m unclear as to its effectiveness.
Total Catch:
- 1 Lesser Spotted Dogfish
