Today’s half-day on the boat was never going to come up to the high-water mark of yesterday’s trip. The planets really aligned for us in terms of sun, wind, and fish on the previous day.

The sky was overcast and the wind had a slight chill. Staying within the confines of Milford Haven, we tried out my favourite thornback ray-mark. A combo bait of blueys and squid has worked very well before, but I hadn’t bought any blueys this weekend as I’d anticipated catching a few herring. So, just squid it was to be. The mini-squid were threaded onto 3/0 hooks and dropped over the side.

A few dogfish found our baits, but nothing bigger.

A bit of trolling on the way back to Neyland Marina couldn’t tempt any bass either.
